Fertilizer synergist refer to a class of active substances for the purpose of increasing nutrient availability. It increases the supply of crop nutrients by fixing nitrogen and activating phosphorus and potassium elements that are difficult to use in the soil.

It is usually added to conventional fertilizers, which can appropriately reduce the amount of fertilizer application and improve the utilization rate of fertilizers. There are many types of fertilizer synergists. From the function, they can be divided into nitrification inhibitors, urease inhibitors, nutrient activators, water retention agents, etc.

• Urease inhibitor: The presence of urease in the soil can catalyze the decomposition of urea into carbon dioxide and water. Inhibiting the activity of urease can inhibit the decomposition of urea, and the utilization rate of urea will be improved. • Nitrification inhibitors: Nitrification inhibitors can inhibit nitrifying bacteria in the soil, prevent the conversion of ammonium nitrogen into nitrate nitrogen, keep nitrogen fertilizer in the soil as ammonium nitrogen for a long time, reduce the volatilization and leaching of nitrogen fertilizer in the soil, and inhibit nitrification. Representative products of the agent are dicyandiamide (DCD), 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP), and 2-chloro-6-trichloro-methylpyridine (CP).
